GENERAL SCOPE
A martensitic steel containing 9% Chromium and 1% Molybdenum is most
commonly used in the hardened and tempered condition.
Though often referred to as a stainless steel the grade does not meet the
accepted criteria to be considered a stainless steel.
Used extensively as tubulars, and structural and pressure containing members
and is listed in NACE MR0175 Table 6 as an acceptable material for
sub-surface components.
This alloy may be subject to accelerated local corrosion in environments
containing free oxygen.
When bill of material requirements can be matched against the wide stock
sizes available considerable cost savings in both raw material supply and
manufacturing are achievable against the comparable bar product form supply.
