GENERAL SCOPE
Alloy 20 is an iron base nickel chromium molydenmun alloy often used in
sulfuric acid environments. The addition of niobium ( Columbium) allows it
to be readily welded and limits carbide precipitation in the weld heat
affected zone which otherwise would reduce its corrosion resistance.
The annealing temperature is limited to 1010°C (1850°F) to ensure the alloy
is “stablized” and is sometimes referred to as a stablized anneal. Annealing
at a higher temperature is possible, but reduced corossion resistance,
especially when welded, will result.
Small diameter bars can be supplied cold worked to give a higher 0.2% proof
stress values.
